In men, abnormal breast enlargement, also known as "gynecomastia," can develop without any underlying medical condition. While it can occur during certain stages of life, particularly during puberty and aging, it can also occur in conditions such as excessive weight gain or hormonal imbalances. It can negatively impact lifestyle and lead to social and psychological problems.

Treatment primarily focuses on determining the underlying cause. In cases where the breast size is not caused by disease and physiological dietary restrictions are eliminated, the surgical technique is chosen based on whether the resulting breast size causes excess skin and sagging. Currently, the main method for treating gynecomastia is liposuction, which involves vacuum-assisted fat removal. To reduce the amount of breast tissue, small incisions are made in the lower half of the areola (the area of the breast) or for liposuction.

The procedure, performed under general anesthesia or partial sedation, combined with regional anesthesia, takes approximately one hour. You can leave the hospital after a six- to eight-hour recovery period. It is recommended to wear a compression garment for approximately two to four weeks and avoid strenuous physical activity for the same period.

Possible postoperative complications include infection, bleeding, fluid retention in the surgical area, and surface irregularities.
