BREAST HEALTH IN BREASTFEEDING

NIPPLE CARE DURING BREASTFEEDING

A general cleaning once a day and applying breast milk to your nipple after each feeding will be sufficient.

A simple once-daily cleaning and applying breast milk to your nipples after each feeding will be sufficient. Wiping your nipples with a soapy cloth after each feeding will dry your breasts and prevent your baby from smelling the milk.

Your doctor will recommend creams; do not use anything else. Moisture can lead to bacterial growth, so be careful not to leave your nipples wet. Milk can leak from your breasts even when you're not breastfeeding, so you should use protective pads. Cotton, supportive, and breastfeeding-friendly bras will provide both comfort and convenience.

Insufficient milk release can also cause discomfort, so pumping may be necessary to ensure proper milk release.
