BREAST BIOPSY

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE RADIOLOGIST IN BREAST BIOPSY?

Breast biopsies are performed on suspicious areas detected by imaging methods.

Breast biopsies are performed on suspicious areas identified by imaging methods. These suspicious areas often have no equivalent on manual examination. Under the guidance of radiological methods (ultrasound, mammography, or magnetic resonance imaging), the radiologist removes a sufficient amount of tissue from the suspicious area with various needles for pathological examination, ensuring minimal harm to the patient. In cases requiring histopathological diagnosis, the radiologist's role is to select and perform the biopsy procedure that is least harmful to the patient and most informative for the pathologist.
