CAN THOSE WITH SILICONE IMPLANTS HAVE MAMMOGRAMS?
There is no obstacle to mammography in those with silicone implants.
There is no obstacle to mammography for those with silicone implants. Light compression during mammography does not harm the implant. Please inform the technician performing the mammography of your silicone implant, so that fine adjustments in dose and positioning can be made to your implant. A mammography performed by an experienced technician will not harm the silicone. Due to its dense structure, silicone causes a partial restriction in the visualization of some parts of the breast. Ultrasound should be performed in conjunction with mammography for those with silicone implants. Ultrasound will reduce the number of blind spots in the breast and better monitor the integrity of the silicone implant. As with all women, women with silicone implants should have annual mammography and sonography for screening purposes.
