WHAT IS BIRADS?
It's the name of the reporting method, derived from the initials of the breast reporting and data recording system, "BreastImagingReportingAndDataSystems." The aim of this method is to standardize mammography and other breast radiology reports in a way that everyone can easily understand and agree on, and to provide guidance on how to proceed based on the categories specified in the results of the reports.
Category 0: Need for additional imaging methods
(Cases in which a definitive conclusion cannot be reached with a single method)
Category 1: Normal mammogram
(Examination that does not detect any findings suggestive of cancer)
Category 2: Benign findings
(Examination that contains definitive findings such as a cyst, etc.)
Category 3: Probably benign findings
(Cases with a maximum of 2% probability of cancer underlying the detected finding)
Category 4: Suspicious findings (group containing findings with a 2-95% probability of cancer)
4A: Slightly suspicious (Probability of malignancy is 2-10%)
4B: Moderately suspicious (Probability of malignancy is 10-50%)
4C: Highly suspicious (Probability of malignancy is 10% 50-95)
Category 5: Findings suggesting a high probability of malignancy (cases with findings with a 95-99% probability of malignancy)
Category 6: Cases known to be malignant (verified by biopsy) but not yet treated definitively
