BREAST IMAGING

WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF TOMOSYNTHESIS?

Just like the superiority of lung tomography over normal chest radiography, the image confusion created by objects with overlapping images in two-dimensional radiography is reduced in cross-sectional three-dimensional tomosynthesis images and the possibility of missing tumors is significantly reduced.

Just as chest CT scans offer advantages over standard chest X-rays, the image clutter created by overlapping objects in two-dimensional X-rays is reduced in cross-sectional three-dimensional tomosynthesis images, significantly reducing the likelihood of missing tumors. This is particularly important in women with denser mammograms, prominent fibrocystic structures, and premenopausal women. In these cases, there are numerous structures within the breast that can hide behind breast cancer, with densities similar to the cancer itself. Tomosynthesis overcomes this problem. Tomosynthesis reduces the number of undecided cases and the rate of unnecessary biopsies.
