TOMOSYNTHESIS AND RADIATION DOSE

The radiation dose received during a digital 2-dimensional mammography is equal to the radiation dose received for a position in a 3-dimensional tomosynthesis mammography in many devices with today's technology.

The radiation dose received during a 2D digital mammogram is equivalent to the radiation dose received for a single position during a 3D tomosynthesis mammogram using many devices today. When a suspicious finding is detected in standard digital mammograms, the need for additional radiographs after tomosynthesis significantly decreases. This, in turn, reduces the patient's total radiation dose.
