HOW IS BREAST CANCER SCREENING DONE?

Mammography Is a Method That Allows the Early Detection of Cancer by Taking X-Rays of the Breast.

Mammography is a method that allows the early detection of breast cancer by taking x-rays of the breast. This method involves taking x-rays of all women over a certain age in an effort to detect breast cancer at an early stage. Mammography, which allows for breast cancer screening in the community, is called screening mammography. When a breast cancer is detected manually by a doctor or the patient herself, it occurs on average at 8-10 years of age (annually). When performed according to radiological guidelines, mammography can detect breast cancer 3-4 years before it becomes palpable.

Screening mammography is the most widely used early diagnosis method for breast cancer worldwide. It is recommended that every woman over the age of 40 have a mammogram every year until the age of 70. In high-risk cases, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging can be added to the screening program.
